About Morgan Rowan
NAME

DESCRIPTION
I'm a Gen Z security professional. By day I'm a Customer Engineer on Cloudflare's Government & Defence team, and my background is in security solutions engineering: Zero Trust, SASE/SSE, ZTNA and identity.
This is my personal blog. It's where I write about the things in cyber I find cool, and the things I've done along the way. It isn't here to sell you anything: no product pitches for Cloudflare or anyone I've worked for. I have LinkedIn for that.
OPTIONS
- --zero-trust
- Zero Trust architecture, SASE/SSE and ZTNA: replacing the castle-and-moat.
- --identity
- Identity and access management, MFA and making strong authentication usable.
- --cloud
- Securing workloads wherever they live, AWS included.
- --explain
- Turning complex security architecture into something people can act on.
HISTORY
I've spent the last six years in Customer Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or whatever job title the industry is currently giving technical people who are also responsible for selling stuff.
My career in cyber started when I was 18. I'd been studying IT at college, and the year was 2020, so we all know what happened that March. With the world on pause, I had some thinking to do.
I'd already decided full-time university wasn't for me. I'd been working for a number of years by then (as a sailing instructor, of all things), and I couldn't see myself spending another three years in a lecture hall learning about technology that would almost certainly be dead, or firmly on its way out, by the time I joined the industry.
So I applied for apprenticeships instead, and landed a job at Cisco as a degree apprentice, studying for a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions at the University of Roehampton alongside the day job. I still got the degree; I just got paid while doing it.
A year in, I moved to Duo Security (part of Cisco) as a Systems Engineer, living and breathing identity, MFA and zero-trust access. Once the degree was done, I stepped up to Security Solutions Engineer at Cisco, working across the wider SASE/SSE and ZTNA portfolio. Then, in August 2026, I joined Cloudflare's Government & Defence team.
